Halyard Park
A neighborhood in Milwaukee
Halyard Park sits within Milwaukee's Bronzeville corridor and is one of the city's longest-standing Black middle-class residential neighborhoods. Its live-music scene is small but carries deep roots. Jewel's 502, at 502 W. Garfield Ave., is a restaurant and tavern with a corner history stretching back decades. The address traces to 1955, when Ozell's 502 Club opened, and later became Boobie's Place under Everett "Boobie" Moore, who built its reputation on live blues and Southern-inspired bar fare. The current space features a hardwood stage for live music and upholds the tradition of hosting live music on Friday nights. The music leans old-school, with R&B, reggae, and local musicians. The venue is also an anchor of the annual Garfield Avenue Blues, Jazz, Gospel and Arts Festival. In early 2025, the bar was renamed Jewel's 502 in honor of its late founder, Jewel Currie, who built it into "a home away from home" for regulars. Still on 12th Street II, at 1871 N. 12th St., draws a neighborhood crowd, with reviewers noting a "grown folks" atmosphere, a DJ, and "great upbeat old school music."
