Niles

Niles, MI sits just north of South Bend along the St. Joseph River, and its indoor live-music options lean toward two distinct moods. Kubiak's Tavern on Stateline Road has been in the same family since 1933, making it reportedly the oldest single-family-owned tavern in Michigan. A neighborhood bar most nights, it draws a much larger crowd a couple of weekends each month when local bands are booked, filling its 300-seat room quickly. Classic rock acts appear on the bill alongside other regional bands, and karaoke runs on quieter nights to keep the stage and dance floor in use. The Study is the only speakeasy lounge in Niles. It occupies the historic 1904 Carnegie Library building alongside the Underground Laugh Lounge. The room runs small and intimate, with muted lighting, fireplaces, and 1920s-era decor, pairing Prohibition-style cocktails with cool jazz. Thursday evenings bring a regular piano series from 7 to 9 PM, and the calendar has also featured dueling mandolins and blues guitar nights.
