Benton Park West

A neighborhood in St. Louis

Benton Park West sits just west of Jefferson Avenue in South St. Louis, its live-music identity shaped largely by Cherokee Street. The neighborhood draws much of its character from Cherokee Street, with its mix of diverse restaurants, quirky bars, niche businesses, and music venues. Moshmellow, on South Jefferson Avenue, is an all-ages venue, bar, arcade, and studio space where "Mosh" covers punk and metal and "Mellow" covers jazz and R&B. It bills itself as a "hip punkjazz concert venue and art gallery." The room operates out of the former Foam, a space with its own history in the St. Louis scene. Shows run Wednesday through Saturday nights. On Cherokee Street itself, tschüss is a bar and underground dance club drawing inspiration from the industrial nightclub scene in Berlin. The dance floor occupies the basement, and the venue hosts DJs weekly, ranging from disco to jungle. A DJ residency program puts a spotlight on emerging St. Louis artists and builds connections across the local scene.
