Cherokee Street

A neighborhood in St. Louis

Cherokee Street's live-music identity runs from street-level and free to ticketed club nights. The neighborhood hosts the annual Jazz Crawl, which turns street corners and local businesses into venues, with 17 free concerts scheduled throughout a single day, and the Brass Band Blowout, a one-night event that kicks off Mardi Gras season with St. Louis brass bands. The two dedicated venues cover very different ground. Off Broadway bills itself as St. Louis's longest-running independent music venue, located on Lemp Ave. in the Historic Cherokee-Lemp District. Housed in a converted brick garage, it offers an intimate atmosphere where fans can enjoy close proximity to performers, whether the act is a local up-and-comer or a national touring artist. Its booking spans rock, alternative country, blues, and folk. The Golden Record, opened in 2021, is a 600-capacity venue in the Cherokee Arts District. Despite that size, the stage placement lends an intimate feel, and shows lean toward rock and country without being limited to them. The Golden Record also serves as the closing-night anchor for the Jazz Crawl, hosting the grand finale performance and All-Styles Dance Battle.
