North Riverfront

North Riverfront runs from Adelaide Street south to Maline Creek north, with the Mississippi River forming its eastern edge, an industrial corridor that, traditionally had few late-night options, but has quietly developed a small electronic music footprint anchored by two venues on N. 2nd Street and N. Broadway. Mississippi Underground was built on the conviction that St. Louis deserved a world-class underground electronic music venue, and took a raw 10,000 sq ft warehouse in North Riverfront and transformed it into a purpose-built space with a sound system that rivals the best clubs in Europe and a lighting rig designed for immersion. Melodic bass, techno, and other electronic styles fill the room, and a recurring event called Materia, combining several local DJs into a collaborative rave, has gained prominence in the scene. Local promoters also use the hall for themed shows such as the quarterly techno bass series "Bass in Bloom." A short walk away, The Broadway Boat Bar is an affordable, multi-floor spot that hosts dubstep, techno, and house shows with a nautical-themed decor blending tropical Caribbean flair with contemporary design. The Materia rave was originally held at Broadway Boat Bar before quickly outgrowing its capacity, a telling sign of how this industrial riverfront stretch has become the center of St. Louis's underground electronic scene.
