Southampton

A neighborhood in St. Louis

Southampton occupies a tight patch of southwest St. Louis between Chippewa, South Kingshighway, Eichelberger, and Hampton. Macklind Avenue serves as its commercial spine, home to local businesses and a close-knit community. Live music in the neighborhood runs toward the intimate end of the spectrum. The Attic Music Bar sits on the second floor of a renovated brick building in the Crown District at 4247 S. Kingshighway Blvd. Live music runs Thursday through Saturday, karaoke fills Thursday nights, and the multi-level patio hosts live music on Friday and Saturday evenings seasonally. Downstairs, Who Dat Southern Food Bar & Grill serves New Orleans Cajun and Southern food, making a full evening of it easy. The Famous Bar, on Chippewa at the neighborhood's north edge, is a long-running south-city spot. It is not a full music venue; it has a small stage to the side of the front door where bands can be seen from the sidewalk window. Music is available on weekends for a low cover, usually three or four dollars. St. Louis Magazine has noted it as a stalwart of the late-night industry crowd, and it is as well known for its award-winning Bloody Marys as for its bands.
