Webster Groves

Webster Groves splits its live-music personality between a rollicking roadhouse bar and a formal performing-arts center on a university campus. Hwy 61 Roadhouse brings a New Orleans dining experience to Webster Groves, established in 2006 in the Old Orchard neighborhood. It was featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Named for the Blues Highway stretching from St. Louis to New Orleans, the Roadhouse keeps that tradition of blues, country, rockabilly, and rock alive with open mic on Wednesdays, acoustic sets on Thursdays, and live bands every Friday and Saturday. On the other end of the spectrum, the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts sits on the Webster University campus and hosts student and professional productions, concerts, and lectures. It features the Virginia Jackson Browning Theatre, which seats 924, and the smaller Studio Theatre, which seats 125. Resident companies include the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. The city also hosts the Old Webster Jazz and Blues Festival on West Lockwood Avenue.
