North End
A neighborhood in St. Paul
The North End's live-music identity runs along Rice Street, and the two venues there point in very different directions. Wilebski's Blues Saloon has operated on that corridor since the early 1980s, when former owner Ted Wilebski converted his pizza parlor into a dedicated blues club. The saloon has hosted over a dozen Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, including Etta James, Buddy Guy, and Albert King, and keeps a regular schedule today: Tuesdays are open jam and Fridays are blues. The room aims to provide an authentic venue for premier blues acts while also giving stage time to local and regional favorites. A few doors away, Cancun Night Club draws a largely Latino crowd with a different calendar. DJs spin Latin beats and dance tracks on weekend nights, while the room also books touring live acts, norteña bands, cumbia groups, and regional Mexican artists have all played the stage. The two rooms together give the North End a narrow but genuine live-music presence, one rooted in blues history, the other in the neighborhood's current Latin community.
