Lakewood Heights

Lakewood Heights sits in the southeastern part of Atlanta, and its live-music identity is defined almost entirely by one very large anchor. Lakewood Amphitheatre, on the grounds of the old Lakewood Fairgrounds, opened in July 1989 and holds 18,920 people, split between 7,000 covered seats and a 12,000-capacity general-admission lawn. Operated by Live Nation, it runs as a seasonal outdoor venue from Memorial Day weekend through New Year's Eve. The site covers 75 wooded acres about four miles south of downtown Atlanta. The amphitheatre has earned praise for its acoustics, and bands like Dave Matthews and Linkin Park have named it one of their favorite venues to play. Past headliners include Tina Turner, Sting, Coldplay, Elton John, Eric Clapton, and Aerosmith. Programming runs the full spectrum from rock to reggae to hip-hop, making it one of the few venues in Atlanta capable of hosting major touring productions at stadium scale.
