Bronzeville

A neighborhood in Chicago

Bronzeville launched the careers of jazz, blues, gospel, and soul artists going back to the early 20th century, and today the neighborhood is embracing that legacy as a home for civil rights, jazz, blues, and gospel music. That history runs through its current live-music spots. Bronzeville Winery runs live music every Wednesday and Sunday, with DJs Thursday through Saturday. Wednesdays lean toward smaller local acts, and the DJ residency was commissioned by Ron Trent, with a state-of-the-art 360 sound system built into the room. The wine list rotates with selections from women-, minority-, and African American-owned labels. Juke Joynt is a dive bar, "a grown folks bar," as its sign outside promises, with karaoke, DJs, and a small dance floor. A well-curated jukebox anchors the room alongside occasional live DJ sets. The Renaissance hosts reggae music nights and NBA playoff game viewing parties. Its spacious dance floor draws crowds to hip-hop, reggae, house, and more. Room 43 rounds out the neighborhood as a dedicated jazz club. The annual Bronzeville Summer Nights series adds outdoor concerts spanning jazz, blues, R&B, and hip-hop.
