Downtown Lansing's anchor music venue is Grewal Hall at 224, a renovated historic venue that hosts a diverse lineup of touring acts, tribute bands, and major community events. The owners purchased the nearly century-old building at 224 S. Washington Square, formerly the original Knapp's department store location and later a nightclub and hookah lounge. With a standing room capacity of 900 and over 6,000 sq ft, the hall can also accommodate 400 in theater seating and 225 in formal banquet seating. The room handles national touring music and comedy alongside local artists, and books across a wide range of genres including rock, hip-hop, jazz, funk, country, and bluegrass. It is Lansing's largest mid-size music venue, positioned to draw crowds between the small bar and large arena sizes.
