Old Town has a long history of live music, anchored by annual street festivals. At the center of the indoor scene year-round is UrbanBeat, at 1213 Turner St. Depending on the night, the venue moves from jazz to soul, rock to pop, and techno to open mics. During Michigan BluesFest, performances spill from UrbanBeat's stage across Turner Street and out to the Brenke Fish Ladder. UrbanBeat also recently hosted a Midwest-wide attempt at the world record for the longest continuous jam session, with musicians aiming for 60 consecutive hours of live music. The Unicorn Bar, a neighborhood watering hole whose name dates to 1983, has reopened in Old Town. The 2,000-square-foot space includes a stage for live music, and the owners plan to continue that programming. The Unicorn plans to host live music regularly, particularly during Old Town festivals. Ozone's Brewhouse, a family-run microbrewery on Beaver St., leans toward a low-key backyard feel, with open-air seating and a food truck. Events there include trivia nights and live performances by local musicians.
