Concert Band and Campus Band
MSU College of Music
The MSU Campus neighborhood in East Lansing centers its formal live-music life on the Wharton Center for Performing Arts, which opened on the MSU campus in 1982 and has grown into Michigan's largest presenter of performing arts, with four unique stages. The main room, Cobb Great Hall, seats 2,254 and is known for its exceptional acoustics. The calendar mixes genres broadly: Broadway tours, symphonic and chamber music, dance, and speaker series all share the schedule. On the jazz side, upcoming bookings include the Count Basie Orchestra and pianist Emmet Cohen. Students can purchase tickets at deeply discounted prices, from $15 to $25. Beyond the Wharton Center, the campus music scene leans informal: MSU's College of Music ensembles and open-mic nights at the Union fill out the calendar, and student bands most often play co-op houses just north of campus.
