Capitol East is an up-and-coming Madison neighborhood anchored along East Washington Avenue, and its live-music options range from a coffee counter to a proper concert hall. Cargo Coffee East Washington, at 750 E. Washington Ave. on the ground floor of The Constellation, hosts live music every week, from open mics and jams to featured bands and solo artists on the weekends. The open mic welcomes music, spoken word, comedy, and dance. Palette Bar & Grill is a casual American dining spot at the heart of the East Washington corridor. It runs a free, recurring Wednesday evening live music series, with sets running 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Past performers have included local acts like Wendy Lynn Markus, John Stanislawski, and the Bill Roberts Combo. The Sylvee is Madison's newest music venue and the neighborhood's largest live-music draw, pulling regional and national touring acts to the East Washington corridor.
