Schenk-Atwood
Schenk-Atwood's Atwood Avenue corridor is one of Madison's densest stretches of live music. The anchor is the Barrymore Theatre, a 971-capacity venue that was converted in 1987 specifically to revive the Schenk-Atwood neighborhood; it has since hosted over 2,000 shows, including rock concerts, plays, dance recitals, and community events. At the neighborhood bar end of the spectrum, Harmony Bar & Grill runs live music every Friday and Saturday night, most Thursday nights, and sometimes on Wednesdays and Sundays. Muso Madison, geared toward musicians rather than audiences, adds rehearsal and performance space to the mix, and even stocks a vending machine with guitar strings, harmonicas, and kazoos. Atwood Music Hall operates as an independent performing arts and events venue in the same corridor. The Barrymore also co-hosts AtwoodFest, a two-day street festival running three stages of live music, with one stage dedicated to folk, bluegrass, and Americana. Alchemy Cafe anchors the annual Schenk's Corners Block Party, another multi-act outdoor event. Garver Feed Mill, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, The Biergarten at Olbrich Park, Starkweather Brewing Company, The Bur Oak, The Green Room Public House, The Malt House, and The Ohio Tavern round out a neighborhood where nearly every block has a room with a stage.
