Lower Broadway anchors the neighborhood's live-music identity, with honky tonks running music from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily. Bands play for tips, and most venues charge no cover. The strip runs a wide spectrum, from old-guard rooms to celebrity-branded mega-bars. Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, frequented by Willie Nelson and Patsy Cline, stands among the originals alongside The Stage, Layla's, and Legends Corner. At Layla's, expect country, rockabilly, Western, Americana, and bluegrass on the same stage. Robert's Western World, a self-proclaimed home of traditional country music, sits a few doors down from Tootsie's and backs up to the Ryman Auditorium. The celebrity-owned end of the strip includes Miranda Lambert's Casa Rosa, the first female artist's bar on Honky Tonk Highway, a four-level complex with Tex-Mex dining and three floors of live music. Luke Combs' Category 10 operates around the corner on 2nd Avenue North. At the larger end, Ryman Auditorium is a historic 2,362-seat venue best known as the home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974 and hosts concerts, comedy, live podcasts, and cultural performances, with a strong emphasis on country, rock, and Americana. Bridgestone Arena handles the largest touring acts. The National Museum of African American Music also presents live programming downtown.
