Marathon Village

Marathon Village grew out of a former car factory and its live-music offerings reflect that contrast of scale: one cavernous concert hall and one intimate neighborhood bar. Marathon Music Works is a concert hall that opened in November 2011 after the old auto manufacturing plant was repurposed. With a standing capacity of 1,500, the room pairs exposed brick walls and a steel beam ceiling with polished concrete bars, giving it the feel of a working factory that never fully forgot what it was. It books national and international touring artists across genres, and past performers include The Weeknd, Arctic Monkeys, J. Cole, Twenty One Pilots, Eric Church, Garth Brooks, and Run the Jewels, among many others. A few blocks away, Grandpa Bar runs as a coffee shop by day and an intimate cocktail bar by night. It hosts regular live music and live performances, including Monday night jazz shows. Singer-songwriter nights have also featured on its calendar, mixed into variety-show formats alongside comedy. The two venues share a zip code but almost nothing else, making Marathon Village one of the few Nashville neighborhoods where a 1,500-cap touring room and a neighborhood jazz bar are equally easy to reach on foot.
