Midtown
A neighborhood in Nashville
Midtown sits between downtown, Music Row, West End, and Vanderbilt University, and its live-music identity is anchored by Elliston Place, the stretch known as the "Rock Block." Exit/In anchors that corridor and is the neighborhood's most historically significant venue. Open since 1971, it built its reputation as a small listening room before growing into a 500-capacity club. Its stage has hosted Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, R.E.M., and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the venue was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2023. Around the corner, Springwater Supper Club & Lounge claims to be the oldest continuously operating bar in Tennessee, hosting live music five nights a week. It is a go-to spot for local indie rock and punk bands. The End guarantees nothing approaching country music, it was grungy before there was grunge, and books alternative-leaning acts. Live Oak books a range from songwriters to rockers. Centennial Park hosts a free outdoor concert series each spring and fall, drawing multi-genre artists. The neighborhood overall leans toward rock, indie, and alternative compared to the country-heavy Broadway corridor.
