Franklin

Williamson County is home to many talented artists and songwriters, and they naturally fill the stages here in their own backyard. Franklin's scene ranges from a reclaimed quarry amphitheater to converted Victorian houses to a 1930s Main Street theater, with country and Americana as the anchor genres. FirstBank Amphitheater, a 7,500-seat open-air venue that has hosted concerts since 2021, has welcomed acts including Zach Bryan, Willie Nelson, and Mavis Staples. Positioned at the base of limestone cliffs up to 100 feet tall, its dramatic natural setting is one of the most distinctive anywhere. The 300-seat, restored 1930s-era Franklin Theatre draws national touring artists and is often called the best 300-seat music venue in the world. The theatre also hosts a Songwriters Series featuring established and emerging artists across genres. Kimbro's Pickin' Parlor on South Margin Street keeps music going until midnight in two former houses converted into a music space, and is often considered the best house party you've ever been to. Its sister venue, the Mockingbird Theater in the Factory at Franklin, is a 170-seat concert auditorium with full production sound and lights. The Factory complex also contains the Turner Theater, home to the Studio Tenn Theatre Company, noted for strong acoustics. Fox & Locke, a Leiper's Fork grocery established in 1947, added live music in 2002, and its Thursday Open Mic Night is considered by up-and-coming musicians the unofficial gateway to Music City. Record-label scouts regularly attend, and artists including Lennon & Maisy Stella were discovered on the Fox & Locke stage. Puckett's Grocery added live music in 2002 and has hosted Kelsea Ballerini, Thomas Rhett, Carly Pearce, and many others across its now multi-state chain. Whiskey Room Live is a 150-seat dedicated music room with state-of-the-art sound and lighting. Southall Farm & Inn houses Dottie's Speakeasy, an intimate room offering live performances in a Prohibition-era setting. Williamson County Performing Arts Center runs events including a Summer Tribute Series of tribute performances and outdoor concerts.
