North Omaha

North Omaha's live-music identity is rooted in the North 24th Street corridor, an area with a history of jazz, soul, and R&B dating back to the 1920s, when Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, and Duke Ellington performed here. That history still shapes what happens on the street today. North Omaha Music & Arts (NOMA), at 2510 N 24th St, functions as both a youth creative academy and an entertainment destination. Youth music education is central to its work, with classes in jazz, blues, funk, and soul. On the performance side, the venue brings in artists from around the country and runs a free public jam session every Monday. Local emerging bands and artists take the stage on the third Thursday of each month. A few blocks north, Culxr House, at 3014 N 24th St, champions Black culture and creativity, hosting hip-hop, R&B, indie, spoken word, comedy, and visual arts. Its Music League puts a competitive spin on the open-mic format, challenging vocalists, producers, and musicians to build, create, and perform together in real time. At the Miller Park Pavilion (2707 Redick Ave), Omaha Performing Arts runs Music at Miller Park, a free outdoor summer concert series held on select Saturdays in partnership with the Minne Lusa and Miller Park Neighborhood Associations and Nelson Mandela Elementary School. All concerts are free and open to the public, no ticket required.
