Chateau
Chateau sits on Pittsburgh's North Shore along the Ohio River and is largely industrial and commercial, with almost no residential population. Its one live-music destination pulls well above its weight. Since 1987, MCG Jazz has brought audiences together with jazz artists at its 350-seat music hall. It runs one of the longest-running subscription series for jazz performance in the country, and five MCG Jazz albums have won Grammy Awards, including three Latin Grammy Awards. Over the years the hall has welcomed legends including Billy Taylor, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Ray Brown, Stanley Turrentine, Ahmad Jamal, and Nancy Wilson. Since 2008, the MCG Jazz Pittsburgh Jazz Legends program has also recognized hometown jazz masters who have stayed in Pittsburgh and kept the local scene going. For anyone serious about jazz, MCG Jazz is a destination worth the trip to this otherwise quiet corner of the North Shore.
