Longfellow's live-music offerings range from a converted firehouse to a tiny indie room on East Lake Street. The Hook and Ladder Theater & Lounge, an independent, artist-driven venue located in a historic firehouse, is the neighborhood anchor. The space holds events and concerts for local artists, with indoor stages that include the Lounge, the Theater, and the Mission Room. It also has an award-winning outdoor Under the Canopy seasonal stage. Cloudland Theater brings a different scale to the strip. The music hub is small but comfortable, with a 150-person standing capacity, and hosts concerts across a wide range of genres. Spearheading Cloudland are longtime friends and bandmates Maren Macosko and Brad Lokkesmoe, two musicians who are no strangers to a stage. Merlins Rest Pub rounds out the neighborhood's regular live-music calendar. Voted Best Neighborhood Bar by readers of City Pages for several years, the pub features open jams, live Irish music, jazz, blues, and folk nearly every night of the week. Every third Monday, it also hosts a pub sing, gathering singers at East Lake Street and 36th Avenue. Schooner Tavern and Urban Forage Winery and Cider House are also listed music venues in the neighborhood.
