Phillips
Midtown Global Market occupies the historic Midtown Exchange building, a former Sears department store on East Lake Street, and it is the neighborhood's primary live-music destination. The market programs 52 weeks of free live music, dance, and arts through its Friends of Global Market series. Most Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m., the Center Stage hosts local musicians and songwriters. The market's own events calendar shows recurring weekday slots as well, with sets from local artists running midday. The East Court also hosts a Guitar Pull and Jam that blends live music with food and drink, and invites guitarists to sit in. Cultural holiday programming, covering Dia de Los Muertos, Kwanzaa, Diwali, and more, rounds out the calendar. Phillips has no dedicated nightlife strip; for loud, bouncing clubs, residents head north into downtown Minneapolis. The market fills that gap with daytime and early-evening music that suits the neighborhood's family-friendly, internationally rooted character.
