Whittier
A neighborhood in Minneapolis
Built in 1868 as a lake-ice storage facility, Icehouse has been transformed into a music club on Nicollet Avenue, the strip known as Eat Street, and is Whittier's main live-music anchor. Since opening in 2012, its mission has been to provide a fun and uncompromising space for music fans and bands to come together. Programming spans jazz, hip-hop, funk, and soul, alongside events like the Urgent Emergent Performance Art Series, themed dance parties such as InMotion, and late-night artist residencies. The two-story, industrial-chic space pairs American cuisine with live music, and guests can catch shows in the main room or the outdoor courtyard. Shows run Wednesday through Sunday nights, plus Saturday and Sunday brunch sets. Beyond Icehouse, live-music venues anchor the broader Nicollet and Lyndale corridors that run through the neighborhood, keeping Whittier's music presence tied closely to its walkable commercial streets.
