Northeast Minneapolis holds one of the densest concentrations of live-music bars in the city. The 331 Club has been a neighborhood bar on 13th Ave NE since 1899 and, after a major renovation in 2005, became the social center for artists and musicians in the area, with live music and entertainment every night of the week. Its core policy is "Never A Cover," making it an affordable place to discover new music any night. The 331 is known especially for its bluegrass and acoustic presence, with recurring series like Womenfolk Radio Concerts on the third Monday of every month and a monthly Cross Pollination songwriter series on the third Thursday. On the harder, darker end, Ground Zero is a dance nightclub and performance venue at 15 SE 4th Street that keeps the Goth style alive in Northeast. Saturday nights feature DJs spinning EBM, industrial, and darkwave. PILLLAR Forum Cafe & Bar, spelled with three L's, is a skate shop, coffeehouse, and live-music space on Central Avenue. Its events are all-ages and alcohol-free. The remaining venues, from brewing taprooms like Broken Clock, Insight, and Padraigs to neighborhood bars like Dusty's, Shaw's, the Vegas Lounge, and the Terminal Bar, fill out a scene that runs from weekend DJ nights to weeknight local-band sets across nearly every format and price point.
