Andersonville

A neighborhood in Chicago

Andersonville sits on Chicago's north side, with Swedish roots and one of the largest LGBTQ+ populations in the city. Its live-music footprint is modest but varied, spread across bars, a cabaret, and one of the city's most unusual performance venues. Chicago Magic Lounge is a speakeasy-style magic theater and performance bar featuring close-up and stage magic from a rotating lineup of professional magicians. Every Monday night the venue pairs live jazz with tableside close-up magic. Hidden behind a faux laundromat, the space runs three venues in one: a performance bar that requires no ticket, a 120-seat cabaret theater, and a room dedicated to close-up magic. Nobody's Darling, just off the Clark Street corridor, is a queer, Black women-owned cocktail bar known for craft cocktails and a welcoming atmosphere. Simon's Tavern offers live music alongside a large beer selection as a classic neighborhood bar. Swedish and Norwegian accents run through Simon's design, inspired by the S.S. Normandie ocean liner of the 1930s. Hopleaf is known for its extensive beer menu and Belgian-inspired cuisine. Drink and Ink operates as a tavern inside a tattoo studio.
