Lakeview
Lakeview is one of Chicago's densest corridors for live music, running from Wrigleyville south through Northalsted and the Southport Corridor. The neighborhood covers everything from stadium shows to 250-capacity club nights. Metro, open since 1982, is a 1,100-capacity concert hall on Clark Street booking local, regional, and national acts. Acts like the Smashing Pumpkins, Alkaline Trio, Fall Out Boy, and Chance the Rapper all laid early roots there. Directly below Metro sits Smartbar, opened in 1982 as a dance club mixing new genres of the time. Schubas Tavern has earned a reputation as one of the best small music venues in the country since 1989. The building is a neo-Gothic brick structure built in 1903 as part of a Schlitz Brewery project, and remains one of a handful of those "Tied Houses" still operating as a saloon. The room covers rock, folk, country, and funk nightly, ranging from up-and-coming locals to national acts loyal to the room. The Vic Theatre, originally opened in 1912 as a vaudeville house, still holds its ornate wall sculptures and marble staircases, and has hosted David Bowie, Pearl Jam, and Coldplay over the years. Berlin, on Belmont, is a dance spot in Northalsted known for its welcoming atmosphere. It opened in 1983. Wrigley Field anchors Wrigleyville and draws large concert crowds during baseball's off-season events.
