Downtown

Downtown Lexington concentrates an unusually wide range of live-music formats within walking distance. At the top of the scale, Rupp Arena at the Central Bank Center is Lexington's primary destination for large-scale concerts, where nationally recognized artists and major tours make their stop in the city. Concert capacity reaches 23,000. Recent bookings have included Chris Stapleton, Lizzo, Journey, and Blink-182. Within the same complex, the Lexington Opera House is one of the region's premier performing arts centers. Opera, musical theater, ballet, and symphonic orchestras share the calendar alongside contemporary pop artists and touring talent. It is nationally recognized as the most intimate theater in the country to host Broadway touring companies. At the Fifth Third Bank Pavilion, the Thursday Night Live series is a fan-favorite, weekly post-work concert in the heart of downtown with food trucks and beverage booths. Red Barn Radio, recorded before a live audience, spotlights bluegrass and traditional Kentucky musicians on Wednesday evenings. Bluegrass Tavern on Cheapside pairs live music with a deep bourbon selection, with music tending toward a mix of pop and classic rock.
