South Lexington's live-music offerings lean toward country, outdoor events, and casual settings. Austin City Saloon on Woodhill Drive has operated as a country music bar since 1981, central Kentucky's original honky tonk featuring local country artists every week, with past performers including Keith Whitley, Luke Bryan, and Jason Aldean. In addition to local bands, the saloon occasionally hosts national touring acts. A dance floor for line dancing and a mechanical bull round out the experience. Lakeside Live brings a different feel, offering free music every Friday and Saturday from May through September. The series draws crowds to enjoy live music at Lexington Green's lakeside shopping destination. Jacobson Park, a large city park on Athens-Boonesboro Road, hosts free community events with live music components during summer months, including the city's Friday Flicks series.
