Benson
Benson is one of Nebraska's most concentrated live-music corridors, with several mid-sized and small venues within walking distance of one another. The neighborhood draws crowds with indie music and a strong local-bar culture. The Waiting Room Lounge is Benson's largest music venue, open seven days a week and hosting concerts almost every night. The building has a long musical history: in the 1980s and early '90s it was home to the Lift Ticket Lounge, which hosted acts including Jesus Lizard, Soundgarden, and Nirvana. Today it books national tours alongside local acts. Reverb Lounge was opened by the same team behind The Waiting Room, Marc Leibowitz and Jim Johnson of One Percent Productions, who converted an old heating and air conditioning shop into a mid-century-inspired tiki lounge. The room is divided into a lounge and a soundproof rock club, with the latter used to accommodate smaller acts as well as comedy and cabaret. Capacity runs around 150. Shakedown Street Tavern is a Grateful Dead-inspired bar that features local and regional artists. It offers live music performances every night, with folk, jazz, blues, and pop in the mix. The venue also hosts Omaha's original open mic night on Monday evenings. The Sydney, on Maple Street, is a bar noted for good acoustics when live shows come through.
